Clearwater Gas System’s Natural Gas
Service Overview
Clearwater Gas System, a department of the City of Clearwater, offers natural gas and propane gas service in three counties, Pinellas, Pasco and parts of Hillsborough. Overall, natural gas appliances operate approximately 60% less than electric appliances, while propane gas appliances operate approximately 30% less than electric appliances.
Clearwater Gas System offers a System-wide Neighborhood Expansion Program (SNEP) that allows the extension of natural gas service to a home --up to 300 feet away from a natural gas main-- when a natural gas water heater and at least one (1) more connected gas appliance is installed. So, in summary, the qualification to obtain residential natural gas service includes the installation of two gas appliances, that is a gas water heater (purchased from Clearwater Gas System), plus one more connected gas appliance. Clearwater Gas System will cover the cost of the natural gas line extension up to the home, including the service line and gas meter set to the front corner of the home, usually on the garage side.
The homeowner is then responsible for all gas plumbing costs, from the gas meter, inside to the gas appliance locations. If preferred, the homeowner can contract a licensed gas plumber, or utilize Clearwater Gas System’s installation service team for the gas plumbing, gas water heater and other appliances, final gas connections, tie-in to the gas meter, and associated permitting, water plumbing and electrical costs. Installation costs may vary depending on distance, type of appliances and permitting issues. Note: a gas representative usually schedules an in-home consultation for homeowners requesting a natural gas service quote/estimate.
Please contact Clearwater Gas System at (727) 562-4980 or visit clearwatergas.com, if you have additional questions and/or concerns regarding natural gas service for your home.
